The Hong Kong Independent Non-Executive Directors Association (HKiNEDA) and Deloitte jointly organized a seminar titled “Enhancing Corporate Governance in Hong Kong: A Deep Dive into the Improvements to the Corporate Governance Code” on February 24, 2025. The event provided a platform for industry leaders to discuss the significant changes to the Corporate Governance Code and Listing Rules following the HKEX’s consultation conclusions to be published on 19 December 2024.

Ms. Kelly Lee of HKEX first introduced the review of the Corporate Governance Code, focusing on changes in board effectiveness, independence, diversity and risk management, and outlining the implementation timeline and HKEX’s vision for future governance.
Afterwards, Mr. Stephen Law, an independent non-executive director of several listed companies and vice-chairman of HKiNEDA, shared practical strategies for adapting to the new governance environment, his valuable practical experience and best practices.

Finally, HKiNEDA Vice President Dr. Lawrence Wong moderated the panel discussion, which was attended by Ms. Kelly Lee from HKEX, Mr. Ernest Lee and Ms. Melissa Fung from Deloitte China. They made detailed analysis and suggestions on three major issues at the meeting, including:
1. Institutions in the market that can provide high-quality INED training courses
2. Effective board operation analysis to identify the demand for INED talents
3. How to find suitable INED in a market lacking quality INED
The seminar was a complete success and provided participants with the knowledge to navigate the evolving corporate governance environment in Hong Kong.

Thank you to all speakers, panelists and attendees for their valuable contributions.
