INED Advanced Training A5: " Deep Dive of ESG & Climate Governance for INEDs“

The fifth module of INED Advanced Training Program was successfully held on 19 Feb 2020.

As the chairman of the Training & Accreditation Committee, Dr. Lawrence Wong helped in the design of the Training Program. He explained the overall design of the training program and then introduced Mr. Anthony Cheung to provide professional knowledge about ESG and climate governance.

Corporate boards are tasked with safeguarding the long-term sustainability of their franchises while delivering value to shareholders and society at large. Boards that start to act now can get ahead of their peers, and will be in a much better position to compete for customers and investment as society becomes ever more conscious with Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) issues.

As the first institutional investors in Asia who was awarded the Certified ESG Analyst (CESGA) designation, Anthony Cheung shared as an INED, how to master an imminent yet structural trend for boards and INEDs, namely climate governance and ESG, with tools that help INEDs and boards to stay ahead of the curve, which covered:

• Business sustainability from global to Hong Kong’s perspectives

• Identifying and measuring the business risks and opportunities

• Effective climate governance and your role as an INED

• Understanding key ESG disclosure

• Toolkits for INEDs and key resources to stay informed

Also, as the program director, Dr. Lawrence Wong conducted a supplementary analysis on related topics to help learning partners understand ESG and climate governance for INEDs.
