The Bio-Economy in Hong Kong

Dr. Lawrence Wong, the Chairman of the New Economy Committee of the Hong Kong Independent Non-Executive Directors Association (HKiNEDA), hosted a webinar on The Bio-Economy in Hong Kong.

Professor Lo Yuk Lam, a Hong Kong biotech leader, reviewed the past development history and current situation of biotechnology in Hong Kong with us online, and pointing out the blind spots of biotechnology in Hong Kong and three key suggestions on how to effectively overcome related problems, including:

• Institutional innovation: the role of the government has changed from active non-intervention to strategically actively guiding the industry

• The foundation: the Hong Kong Science and Technology Park Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong innovation and technology linkage, the development of the northern metropolitan area, the establishment of the Hong Kong Chinese medicine pilot demonstration area, the establishment of the Greater Bay Area biological sample database, the establishment of the Hong Kong biotechnology industry information index platform, etc.

• Create a business environment suitable for the development of the biotechnology industry
